Training Session Highlights – Shotokan Pool
We successfully conducted a valuable training session for the Shotokan Pool, packed with insightful knowledge and skill development.
- Break fall Techniques: Sensei Thushara Ratnayake delivered an engaging session on break falls, explaining their applications across different martial arts such as Judo, Aikido, Jiu-Jitsu, and self-defense. This comprehensive approach highlighted the importance of mastering break falls to enhance safety, adaptability, and effectiveness in Karate Kumite and Kata Bunkai.
- Planning in Sport (Periodization): Sensei Thushara also conducted a highly informative session on “periodization”, emphasizing its significance for national-level athletes. The session covered how to prepare scientifically for major events, ensuring peak performance and optimal results through structured training cycles.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF) for sharing their invaluable knowledge about periodization, which has greatly enriched our training approach. A special thank-you goes to Mr. Bharath Herath ( Bharatha Herath ) , Bandara Wickramasinghe Sir, and Rohana Rathnayake Sir for their guidance and contributions to this crucial area of athletic preparation. - Distance in WKF Kumite: Sensei Dilshan Jurangpathy followed with a highly engaging and productive session on managing distance in WKF Kumite, a crucial element for success in sparring.
- WKF Karate Gi Regulations: Sensei Gaminie Sudugala, Chairman of the Referee Commission of the Shotokan Karate Federation, provided an informative explanation on dressing the Karate Gi according to WKF standards, ensuring compliance and professionalism during competitions.

- Shotokan Executive Board for supporting the pool members with snacks and a brand-new first aid kit.
